Students collect plastic, e-waste

Pune: Vanraai, an NGO, has launched its plastic-free, e-waste-free society project in the city with participation from several institutes.

The project was launched on Tuesday in five schools in Maharshinagar, Satara Road. “Under this drive, the students are told to collect dry plastic waste and e-waste from their schools and homes. This is a pilot project to work on plastic-free city and help reduce the burden on the PMC,” said Ravindra Dhariya, President, Vanraai.

“We are also planning to go to residential societies in the coming days for the plastic-free e-waste-free society project,” he added. Big  bags are provided to the schools to collect plastic waste. Students collected around 125 kg plastic on the first day. “The collected plastic waste will be given to Garbage Management Institute,”  said Lalit Rathi of Clean Garbage Management Institute.

Presently, the project has been launched in Mahaveer English Medium School, Vimlabai Lunkad School, PMC School numbers 105 and 66.

Mahaveer Pratishthan Acting President Vijaykant Kothari, Dhanyakumar Chordia, Vineet Biyani, Lalit Rathi of Clean Garbage Management Institute, Ganesh Shirode of Environment Club of India, Mukund Shinde of Vanaraai, Rahul Kankaria, Vinod Bodhankar of Sagarmitra, Arun Gandhi, Mahaveer English Medium School Principal Alaknanda Sengupta and Nana Kshirsager were present at the project launch.
