Unruly permit holders to face action from MSRTC

Permit holders of private buses, autorickshaws and taxis, behaving in an unruly manner with Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) drivers and conductors, will now face stringent action, including suspension of their permits, Transport Minister Diwakar Raote announced recently.

“If permit holders of private buses, taxis or autos beat up drivers of MSRTC, then henceforth, this offence would entail the suspension of their licences or permits,” an MSRTC official said.

“With a view to increase the passenger traffic, MSRTC has started a shuttle service which travels from village to taluka and from taluka to district. This service has numerous stops for the convenience of passengers,” he added.

Apart from this, MSRTC has also started non-stop buses service on various routes. “At present, MSRTC buses make 7,420 shuttle trips on 284 routes in the state, while there are 2,449 non-stop trips on 124 routes in the state,” the MSRTC staffer said.

With the rising response from passengers for these services, the other transport options, many of which are illegal, are facing the brunt.

“Due to this, in the recent times, there have been incidents of people beating up drivers or conductors of MSRTC,” an MSRTC employee told Sakal Times
