Pune: On the occasion of Organ Donor Day, Ruby Hall Clinic on Wednesday in association with the Indian Medical Association, Pune, ReBirth, Hope and Care Foundation, Rotary Club of Poona Downtown, Rotary International as well as the USK Foundation organised an awareness rally and special function to felicitate organ donor families and recipients along with families.
Thirty organ donor families and recipients spoke about their experiences. Ruby Hall Clinic also unveiled an organ donor mobile app that will help people officially register as organ donors.
The rally started from Deccan Gymkhana and ended at Tilak Smarak Mandir. The participants walked through main roads carrying placards and banners with slogans underlining the importance of donating organs. The Chief Guest was Mayor Mukta Tilak, guest of honour Commissioner of Police Rashmi Shukla, CEO of Ruby Hall Clinic Bomi Bhote and Managing Trustee, Ruby Hall Clinic Dr Purvez Grant were among those present.
Tilak said, “Awareness is key for more people to come forward and play their part in this noble deed. For organ recipients, a transplant is a second chance at life. It could mean a patient’s return from his death bed to a normal life. As the first citizen of Pune, I would definitely like to be the first one to sign up for this app.”
Shukla said,“Rekindling the hope of life for a patient and their family, we understand that every second is important in this process. With green corridors, we hope to do our bit in transporting organs. Every case is a challenge, but with every challenge, we have hope a new.”
