PUNE: While the process of denotification of national and state highways passing through PMC limits has begun in order to protect liquor businesses, now, Pune Mayor Mukta Tilak has suddenly taken a stand against the denotification process. She has written a letter in this regard to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday.

In its recent judgement, the Supreme Court had ruled that all bars, wine shops and permit rooms located at a distance of 500 metres or lesser from national and state highways should be closed down. However, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) had requested the Public Works  Department to denotify the national and state highways passing through PMC limits, citing that these highways are maintained by the local civic body. However, Tilak’s letter to Fadnavis says that the PMC should comply with the Supreme Court order and highways should not be denotified.
