Voice of India: Is India a land of opportunities?

In a bid to draw investors and help the Make in India campaign successful, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been sharing on all major global forums that India is a land of opportunities. Indeed it is. A large number of our youngsters are exploring their entrepreneurial skills and creating job opportunities for others as well. On the higher education front too, India has exhibited impressive growth over the last decade. We also have some of the best professional courses and educational institutes like the IITs, IIMs and so on. Here, youngsters share their thoughts on whether they get enough opportunities or is it a big struggle:

I think right now India is a goldmine of opportunities. You just have to turn around and see the kind of start-ups and ‘made in India’ ventures that are coming up. We also have many foreign investors coming to our country. It’s We, youngsters, have to truly believe in our capabilities and opportunities will keep knocking. But it’s not that the country must only provide us with opportunities, we can create them for ourselves. Look at the success stories of Flipkart or OYO Rooms. We just have to dream and have the desire to fulfill those dreams.

India currently offers great opportunities when it comes to education and jobs. However, many youngsters go overseas to pursue higher education and explore job opportunities. It’s true that you will be able to earn more when you work abroad but students who pass out from premium institutes here also get packages over Rs 20 lakhs. Also, our country is providing several platforms to youngsters to set up business. In a population of more than 100 crores, if 20 per cent become entrepreneurs, then it’s a big achievement. A friend of mine left his banking job to launch his own company. There are so many such examples. India is booming with offers and if you have the right skill set, mindset, focus and risk-taking ability, you can make it big. As youngsters, we need to keep developing our skills and step out of our comfort zone.
