Winter takes a break: Min temperature to shoot up across State

Pune: Winter is set to take a break for the next few days over most parts of Maharashtra as the minimum temperature is expected to shoot up and remain at around the 10 to 12 degrees Celsius mark.

Furthermore, warm days are also on the cards as the maximum temperature too is likely to cross the 30 degree mark during this period.

Cloudy and overcast conditions prevailed over Pune as well, where minimum temperature touched 14 degree on Sunday, which was nearly 3 degree above the normal mark for this time of the year.

Except for Vidarbha, which continued to experience mild cold on the day, it was humid in all other regions of the State. Nagpur (10.3 degrees) and Amravati (11 degrees) remained cold on the day. Weather experts have stated this to be due to remnants of the earlier cold wave conditions, which had gripped Vidarbha last week.

Officials at the Met office have said that the slight warming is due to moisture incursion over north India, where it has been raining and snowing heavily.

“Under the influence of this sudden moisture in the lower tropospheric layers, the dryness and chill has vanished,” said an official at India Meteorology Department (IMD), Pune.

It was a wet Sunday across several places in north India with light showers being reported in west Rajasthan and east Uttar Pradesh. This event has pumped in moisture into the central and western regions including Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. Similar weather conditions would prevail until January 19, added IMD authorities.
